Additional Material for Guitar Lessons
In this course you will find a variety of guitar lessons. This course is not a substitute for a “Learn how to play the guitar” book. It contains lessons on specific topics, additional material, diagrams and tables etc. which I use in my guitar lessons in addition to e.g. the Hal Leonard Guitar Method book.
Why do I write a Course “Guitar Lessons”?
Guitar is my first instrument – actually it turned out to be a few instruments:
- Classical guitar: Spanish or Romantic music or Lute songs from the Middle Ages played with Nylon string guitars
- Electric guitar: You can play a wide range of music styles from Blues to Jazz, you can play rhythms and/or melodies.
- Electric bass: With basically the same tuning for the lower four strings and a right hand finger play that’s similar to classical guitar the change you have to make is more a mental one – consider yourself as a bass player supporting the band and not a guitar player showing off.
My recommendation is to do what worked great for me: learn classical guitar, because that’s a solid foundation. You’ll learn all notes in all positions on the guitar and you’ll learn how to hold the guitar without tension so that you can get your fingers to the right place. It’s also important to understand how to get a good sound out of your guitar; don’t get too fancy with effects etc. before you understand what makes a guitar sound good.
